The Institute for the Study of the Land of Israel and its Settlement is an academic research institute which focuses on the study of all aspects of the Land of Israel
Its aim is to promote and facilitate in-depth research of all issues related to the history of the Land of Israel and Jerusalem within the broader contexts of general history, Jewish history, and the history of the Middle East and the Mediterranean basin. Towards this end, the Institute works in close cooperation with universities, colleges and all other academic institutions in Israel, as well as with prominent academic institutions abroad.
The Institute awards scholarships and prizes to researchers (mainly graduate and post-graduate students) with the aim of promoting study of these fields; holds conferences and workshops, both local and international, for scholars and the general public, and publishes dozens of books as well as the journals Cathedra and Et-Mol.
The Institute’s activities are guided by its Scientific Committee which determines the Institute’s academic policies and lays down guidelines for its activities. The Committee initiates academic projects, reviews annual reports about the Institute’s activity and authorizes the various studies and research projects carried out under the Institute’s auspices.

The Institute aspires to be the leading Institute in the field of the studies of the Land of Israel within the larger contexts of general history, Jewish history and the history of the region of the Middle East. The Institute works in cooperation with researchers and scholars from universities and colleges in Israel and abroad with the aim of deepening and promoting knowledge in this field.
The Institute reviews and supervises the academic quality and standards of the content put out by the various departments of YBZ in this field.
The Institute works to reveal, preserve and impart knowledge and information of this field through a variety of innovative means, disseminating it among scholars and the general public. It works to widen the circle of interest in this field among young and mature students, tour guides, instructors and the general public, while aspiring to excellence and respect for a diversity of views and outlooks.
The Institute realizes these aims in cooperation with a range of private and public academic and research institutions in Israel and abroad.
