מאמרו של משה נאור 'חארת אליהוד וההיסטוריה של
יהודי ספרד והמזרח בחיפה' סוקר את ההיסטוריה של
רחוב היהודים בחיפה (חארת אליהוד). בדומה לשכונות
יהודיות במרכזים עירוניים במזרח התיכון, שכונה זו,
ששכנה ברובע המזרחי והמוסלמי של חיפה, הייתה
מרכז לחיים הקהילתיים של יהודי ספרד והמזרח בעיר
עד המרד הערבי. בחינת ההיסטוריה של השכונה כמרחב
משותף יהודי וערבי מתפתח ומשתנה וההתמקדות
ביהודי ספרד והמזרח מאפשרים הצגת פרספקטיבה
נוספת להיסטוריה של חיפה ולהבנת התפתחות היחסים
בין יהודים לערבים בתקופת המנדט.

Moshe Naor’s article, “Ḥārat al-Yahūd and the
Sephardi and Mizrahi Jewish History of Haifa,”
reviews the history of the Street of the Jews
in Haifa (Ḥārat al-Yahūd). Similar to Jewish
neighborhoods in urban centers throughout
the Middle East, this neighborhood, located in
the eastern and Muslim quarter of Haifa, was a
center for the communal life of the Sephardi and
Mizrahi Jews of the city until the Arab Revolt.
Examining the history of the neighborhood as
a developing and changing shared Jewish and
Arab space and focusing on the Sephardi and
Mizrahi Jews allows for an additional perspective
on the history of Haifa and an understanding of
the development of relations between Jews and
Arabs during the Mandate period.
